How is Outpost Miri organised?

Outpost Miri 's work is divided into three areas and looked after by three separate groups of volunteers. Each group has a coordinator.  The three coordinators make up the core group which runs Outpost Miri.

The Office Group is the Miri arm of the Shell Global Information Network Group. It runs the office and answers enquiries. Office group members are often the first people new clients have contact with. Under the umbrella of the office group, there is also the Information Group.

The Publication Group publishes a fortnightly newsletter, the Hornbill Herald. It has also published the Miri Information Guide and a Spouse Employment Guide, as well as the Glossy Link magazine which appears twice a year.

The Social Activities Group organises classes, activities and talks in Hornbill House. If you have any ideas or would like to teach a class or a course, get in touch with them. They are also responsible for the day-to-day running of Hornbill House and social gatherings.

The Meet & Greet Group welcomes new arrivals and Malaysian returnees to Miri and provides them with up-to-date information about Miri to help them settle in more quickly. The group tries to ensure that new arrivals are met by someone, preferebly of the same nationality or language and with similar family circumstances.

The Career and Development Group organises workshops, activities and talks focused on further education and career opportunities.

The Housing Committee look after the interests of residents of Piasau Camp, Taman Bayshore and temporary accomodation provided by SSB. Although an independent body, it liaises with Outpost Miri to foster good communication between the residents of Piasau Camp and SSB through regular meetings with the SSB staff responsible for housing. This collaboration has led to great improvements in the houses in general and the Piasau Camp living area as a whole.
